Events - Proposed Field Trip to IITA in Ibadan
Earlier this year we took our students to the IITA center at Ibadan. The trip was so successful and the hotel so accommodating that we have decided to take our new year 7s.
We are planning to take students for 3 days, 2 nights in 2 separate groups. The first half of year 7 will leave on the 10th November and return on the 12th whilst the second group will leave on the 15th November and return on the 17th. The focus of the trip will be science and students will complete the Environment topic in the field rather than just reading all about it from the text-book. As well as science, there will also be a creative element and a sporting element.
On their first day at IITA students will be
catching and investigating stream and pond life and using microscopes to examine mini-bugs,
Catching insects and other small creatures using Pouter bottles, traps and tree beating,
looking at the local eco-system, identifying predators, herbivores etc.
In the afternoon there will be an opportunity for soccer and swimming.
We will then be up early in the morning for a jog around the campus before visiting the laboratories that are at the heart of the work done by scientists at IITA. In the afternoon we will be using the beauty of the site to developing their creative skills. this will be followed by a friendly, mixed soccer or basketball match against another school from Ibadan.
We'll be up early on the final morning for another jog before going off to visit the recreated forest that form a major part of the IITA site. We'll then visit a number of agricultural plot and see how rice is grown, for example, before heading off back home.
