Day Waterman College Opens in 2008
In September 2008, Day Waterman College, a world class international secondary school will open its doors to young minds. With a mission to educate young people of promise for personal fulfillment, leadership roles and enthusiastic participation in an increasingly complex and dynamic world, Day Waterman College is set to make a difference in education.
Day Waterman College will incorporate a four dimensional model incorporating academics, sports, vocational activities and character development to provide a platform for entry into top local and international Universities. The school will offer a dual curriculum: IGCSE and IB Diploma Program and has international and indigenous teachers. Indigenous teachers will participate fully in a skills transfer programme. The school will also cater to students from outside the country.
Day Waterman College is situated at Asu Village, 10 minutes from Abeokuta, Ogun State. It is far away enough from the city to provide serenity, yet close enough to be accessible.
Day Waterman College was founded in response to the decline in the educational system in the country and the need to produce a new crop of young leaders. The creation of the school is in recognition of the prime role that education plays in national development. According to the leader of the founding group, Tayo Aderinokun MFR, "We want to build a legacy and give back to the country that has done so much for us. If we all contribute to the good of the country, we can achieve greatness".
Day Waterman will provide opportunities for the less privileged by giving out full scholarships to a significant number of students. An endowment fund is in place to provide scholarships for high achieving indigent students. IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is in the process of conducting due diligence of DWC for the purpose of partnering with the school. IFC fosters sustainable economic growth in developing countries by financing private sector investment, mobilizing private capital in local and international financial markets, and providing advisory and risk mitigation services to businesses and governments.
